Beat Lake Travis week has arrived - Make it a great Monday!

Hey Easy Street Tailgaters:

The Chaps (7-0) and Hyline took care of business vs. Hayes on Friday night. LT is next; also unbeaten, after putting 70 points on the board against Austin High. It has been seven years since Westlake beat Lake Travis on a rainy night in Austin. Nick Foles was a senior quarterback, Justin Tucker a junior wide-receiver / kicker, and Ryan Swope a sophomore defensive back! If we go down again this year, it is not going to be the fault of the Hyline and Easy Street Tailgaters.

Plans are in full force for a ‘Beat Lake Travis Stadium March' beginning on Easy Street and culminating outside of the Westlake locker room, where we will greet the team coming off of the field after warm ups. We are going full-on William Wallace Braveheart March complete with bagpiper and the first ever assembled Easy Street Tailgate Pep Band. Get your face paint ready, make your signs, bring your flags and your musical instruments (kazoos, cowbells, what-ever-you-got) . . . BRING IT AND BE READY TO MAKE SOME NOISE!

For this week only, we are moving our tailgate start time up to 4:30PM, so all can be nourished and ready for the march. Please contribute a heavy appetizer or sub sandwich type item, plus what you would like to drink.
At 6:00PM, we will move to the Easy Street cul-de-sac to practice cheers and begin our spirited and loud march to the stadium. We plan to stop by the football parents tailgate (next to People’s Pharmacy) and then proceed to the stadium parking lot (across from the locker room), where we will greet the Westlake team when they come off the field from warmups. Then into the stadium in time for the traditional Patton March as the team breaks the banner and takes the field. I’m telling you, you do not want to miss this one!

Questions? Write to cathy.singletary@gmail.com; text or call 512.633.5932

Game tickets can be purchased here, beginning at 8AM on Monday morning. In past weeks, the stadium seating chart has been misleading. Seat numbers are reversed on the map. In other words, the seats that appear closer to the 50 yard line, are actually on the opposite end of the row. We typically sit in Section C.

Women Power Wednesday - Daring Greatly

Hi Fam,

I am reading a great book by Brene Brown on embracing vulnerability called Daring Greatly. I thought I would share my biggest takeaway so far which are ten guideposts to wholehearted living. She describes wholeheartedness as, "a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness." I think there is a certain spiritual awakening that can occur when you really start to evaluate these and envision what letting go really looks like.

1. Cultivating Authenticity - letting go of what people think
2. Cultivating self-compassion: letting go of perfectionism
3. Cultivating a resilient spirit: letting go of numbing and powerlessness
4. Cultivating gratitude and joy: letting go of scarcity and fear of the dark
5. Cultivating intuition and trusting faith: letting go of the need for certainty
6. Cultivating creativity: letting go of comparison
7. Cultivating play and rest: letting go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as self-worth
8. Cultivating Calm and Stillness: letting go of anxiety as a lifestyle
9. Cultivating meaningful work: letting go of self doubt and "supposed to"
10. Cultivating laughter, song and dance: letting go of being cool and "always in control"

I love you all -

Sally

Women Power Wednesday - on Thursday

Hey girls,

This is a cool video featuring five women in NYC who are 'Flame Artists'. Flame is high-end 3D visual effects software (coupled with purpose-built hardware solutions) that I sell to my clients who are in the Creative Finishing (CFIN) business for commercials, television minis, movies, etc. (NBCUniversal and The Mill.)

You can watch the video, featuring the five women, here. Notice how all of these women are passionate about what they do and how their stories are different, yet similar, in terms of finding their career sweet spot.

Emily, this is a great piece to share with your artistic friends at SCAD, who might be trying to find a way to differentiate themselves in their careers. Steep learning curve, but worth the effort, if they can learn the tools.

Women power,

Dad
