Women Power Wednesday - Dianne Page Bench

Sally,

This is a sweet obituary on Kevin Bench's mom, Dianne Page Bench. Kevin lost his mom and dad last week, two days apart. Reading this reminded me of Ms. May, Ricky's mom. Funny, very smart, witty, happy and loved the Tar Heels!

The Benches were our first friends in Austin and it has been nearly ten years since we met them!

I hope you will take a minute to read this.

Love,

Dad

All hands on deck for Pop

Hey Sally,

I hope your Monday is going well. We are sure all worried about Pop and sending prayers for a speedy recovery. Thanks for being there with BeBe yesterday.

Here's the Goose dressed for the Tar Heels (on top) and the NCL Senior Presentation Banquet (underneath). We couldn't pull the Heels through yesterday, but they gave it their all.

More on the banquet to follow this week. We enjoyed seeing the Bench's and they all asked about you.

Make it a great Monday,

Dad

PassFir5t - Lucy in the Action

If not familiar with PassFir5t, you can read about it here: http://bit.ly/GKvsMy

The PassFir5t movement started after our starting point guard broke his wrist in our last game. The founder of the social media movement has remained anonymous, with the overall theme being help someone out first, before taking care of yourself.

Women Power Wednesday - Brave Goose

Sally,

Lucy had four teeth extracted yesterday. She's back in school today and doing great. Dr. VanWicklen said she was a very brave little goose. Best patient he has ever had!

Two nights ago we had another night of torrential rain fall and I am pleased to report the gutters and drainage did okay.

Love,

Dad

Lucy celebrates birthday no. 12 in Florida

Lucy May Singletary
Wow! Twelve years ago today, Mom and I headed to the hospital, to let doctors bring into the world our little Goose. We did not know exactly what to expect, but God gave us a beautiful, healthy baby girl.

Her life has been more than we could have ever imagined and I am so grateful for Lucy and equally grateful for the way her big sisters help love and care her.

Happy Birthday Goose! You are beautiful on the outside and the inside. Thanks for being my daughter!

Spring Break 2012!

Sally,

This will most likely be my last post until after Spring Break. That's Goose and Bug at Sam's lacrosse game last night. Cold front came through and we shivered a lot! Mom wearing her ten gallons and her new glasses. I love that girl!

Have a great time on your trip. Keep us posted and take good care of yourself! I am headed to Vegas for a sales meeting. Lucy off to Florida tomorrow. Mom and Emily holding down the fort at home and dealing with contractors at the house and in the yard.

Stay fit,

Dad

Emily T2 at Don Beaver Invitational

Emily with Don Beaver
Hey Sally,

Emily had another nice tournament yesterday, finishing tied for second in the Don Beaver Invitational at historic Lions Municipal Golf Course. She shot a 75 and missed the top spot by one shot. That is the second tournament in a row that she has finished in the second position and she had a solid 39 in a nine hole qualifier earlier in the week.

Read about Don Beaver here.

Proud of her,

Dad

Women Power - Mom

Good morning Sally,

Mom looked so pretty on Saturday, going to a luncheon with some neighbors. I thought I would celebrate her on Women Power Wednesday. She is amazing!

Work continues on the house, both inside and outside. We have decided on a new drainage plan for the side and front yards, so a lot of digging and some regrading work in progress. We have our sheet rock all reinstalled and first coats of paint being applied on the affected interior walls.

It is not fun money to spend, but it must be done and done right as we hope to be here for many, many more years and the house functions a lot better when it is not full of water.

I hope your day is going well . . .

Love,

Dad

March Madness Story

Great win for the Tar Heels on Saturday evening and Lucy is breaking out the Carolina Blue this morning for sure. One of my favorite stories about Carolina basketball is about Coach Dean Smith (who retired in 1997 after 36 years as the head Coach) and how Coach Smith treated his players back in the 1960's.

As you know, the 60's were tumultuous times in our nation, and Smith put himself in the middle of it, repeatedly. He was the first coach in the ACC to have an African American on his team, when he signed Charlie Scott to a scholarship. He would often take his African American recruits to lunch at the most segregated restaurants in Chapel Hill. People would get upset at his audacity and this was before he had established himself as one of the greatest college coaches ever.

Coach Smith did not care, and some felt he was overstepping his bounds and that he was building a platform outside of his coaching responsibilities. This is a great example of going against the 'norm' when you believe you are doing something that is right and good. Think about examples where you have and can do the same thing.

Make it a great Monday,

Dad

Friday update from Austin

Hey Sally - A wonderful choir concert last night at the Middle School. Lucy was spectacular as usual. Emily looked pretty this morning heading into her last three months of school! She said Senior-ites is kicking in fairly strong, but she had a nice week with strong golf scores and a good job interview at Beehive. I worked out hard this morning and then had fun with my buddies at Rudy's 360. Mom is out running Town Lake with Tracy Anderson. You stay fit and have a great weekend. I love you! - Dad

3D Software - changing everything

Sally,

How was your AutoCAD class? Here is a cool article on how 3D design software is changing everything: http://bit.ly/zx6m9V You will especially like this part:
For example, imagine you are thinking of remodeling your old house and you are away from home and have an idea. Your first thought may be to find some paper to sketch a layout, but now you can throw away your paper and pencils and use the Internet through a mobile device to try 3D online home design software. From floor to ceiling, planning a room layout and styles will only take roughly a quarter of the time consumed when using paper and pencils. Users can create lifelike 2D or 3D images to get an overall view of their updated home with a simple click of the mouse.
I love you,
Dad
