Hey my girls and other fans of Nuggets. I am having a ball in CLT with Uncle Ricky. Our first stop this morning was Uncle Patton and Aunt Cindy's where we were (not) served a large breakfast or even so much as a cup of coffee. In fact, we were only allowed to hang out with Patton on the front porch and never laid eyes on the rest of the McDowell gang. We did manage to find a good breakfast across the street at Eddie's. Off to Chapel Hill next.

123D Catch on Stay Whole Tuesday
Here is something cool from Autodesk that you might want to download. It is a free app available through the app store. The article says to download from iTunes, but I only found it through the app store. Stay whole and catch some 3D images when needed.

The knee of the Goose
The patella is rubbing against the femur because her bones are growing faster than her muscles. She needs to really stretch her tendons in order to put space between those bones. The good news is she's still growing!

"A smooth sea . . .
. . . never makes a skillful sailor." - quoted by Sally at Emily's high school graduation lunch.
We are so happy that things are going well for Emily in her first days of college. She is very busy, but she sounds energized and excited. Remember, there will be bumps in the road ahead, but stay true to yourself and accept the challenges as they come as opportunities to learn and grow.
I am off to Los Angeles for a two day media conference and making a presentation on Smoke 2013 on Friday afternoon. Lucy at the orthopedic doc this morning to check on why her knee keeps hurting. Stay tuned . . .

Professional Development
Hey girls,
I am not sure what this has to do with Women Power Wednesday, but the subject is Professional Development. Mom took two classes on Saturday, as she is required to take a certain number of refresher classes each year in order to keep her PT license current. She took a course on Ethics and she also visited the Cadaver Lab at Texas State. She said the smell alone was enough to bring back too many memories of long days in the lab when she was in college.
We have professional development discussions with our bosses at Autodesk, in order to identify areas in which you want to learn and grow. My main goal this year is to learn to be more effective at demonstrating a global perspective. So one of the things I am doing is taking an on-line course from Coursera. The course is titled: 'A History of the World Since 1300' and it is taught by a Princeton University professor. I am one of over 70,000 people who signed up for the free on-line course! The class begins next week.
So, in a way, we are all still in school . . .
Love you,
Dad

First Day of Classes at SCAD
Goose and Georgia |
My football teams went 1-2 this weekend. Westlake lost to Temple 42-35 on the road. Carolina was picked apart by Tanner Price and Uncle Pat's Wake Forest Demon Deacons. At least the Dawgs looked good against Missouri, especially in the second half.
Today is first day of classes at SCAD, so good luck Emily. Lucy and her friend Georgia did a little face work on Saturday night in Austin.
Make it a great Monday,
Dad

Fit as a Fiddle Friday
It's been a good week on the activity front. Lucy is dancing hard and has set some goals for the year. (See photos below.) She is working through quite a bit of soreness and a head cold. Emily survived her first two team workouts, including the first 'Coach Carter' workout with the boys team. Emily is holding her own in 81-hole qualifier during her first week of college golf. Orientation tomorrow and classes start Monday. Sally landed a nice job helping the UGA Swim Coach with their three children two days a week and maybe some on the weekends. Mom working super hard with back-to-school and home health. Proud of all of my girls! Stay fit. - Dad

And then there was one (at home)
Out to CPK with the Goose after successful trip to Georgia. Just gave her the 'balance' ring that we found at the SCAD store. She had a great church retreat while we were away. Stay balanced and stay whole.
