Happy Birthday Mom - She's Grand!
Two things i love about mom (Lucy)
1: she's been really supportive with my dancing and has taken me to doctors appointments and competitions and conventions and been super helpful
2. I love how hard she's been working to get in shape and how much it's paid off and how cute she dresses
Mom- (Emily)
I love Mom because she is a free spirit and no matter who is around her they are going to have a good time.
I love Mom because she's always on my side and does so much for her daughters.
Sally:
1. I love how we talk on the phone multiple times a day and have the whole time I've been in college and how she helps me through all situations.
2. I love how hard she works for our family and does it by helping and influencing kids that need help in Austin.

Bloomberg Business Week - Design Double Issue
The Bloomberg Businessweek design double-issue hit the stands, and the web, this past weekend prominently featuring Autodesk and our customers. Autodesk's Distinguished Research Scientist Andrew Hessel is quoted on the cover and the article Andrew Hessel's Autodesk Team Seeks Crowdsources Cancer Cure presents, in a very flattering light, the cutting edge work being done by Autodesk, the Bio Nano team and Project Cyborg. The article also includes quotes from key collaborators Skylar Tibbits and George Church, among others.
Autodesk customers were featured in these other articles:
- Studio Visit: Industrial Light & Magic Animator Hal Hickel
- Studio Visit: Lit Motors' Daniel Kim Gives a Tour
- Bot & Dolly and the Rise of Creative Robots
- Famestore's Charles Howell on the Visual Effects in Gravity

Autodesk acquires Creative Market
It looks like Autodesk has taken one more step forward in its bid to compete more with the likes of Adobe in the business of providing tools to the design community, but also a bigger step into the maker movement. It has acquired Creative Market a San Francisco-based startup that provides a marketplace for digitally-designed content like fonts, icons, photos and templates.

Thoughts from Coach Nowland on Emily's strong women project
Just amazing! Thank you for sharing this project with me. She is a special one, that Emily!
I can't wait to see more of her work and talk to her about it. I love the idea of hidden/emerging/contrasting/conflicting perceptions/insights into a woman's identity. No wonder they are so complicated! :) What is key is how Emily is tapping into this awareness in her design work with how clothes, etc. reflect or suggest or release the inner woman in new/powerful ways. Cool stuff!

Strong Women Project - Emily
In Emily's words . . .
My concept was "Strong Woman" (we had a list to pick from). I wanted to focus more on how Women today are always having to appear a certain "strong" way while they may feel another way on the inside. Having to put on make up, always acting like a lady, etc.
I showed this through geometrical shapes with two different colors, as in a certain color on the outside and an inner color peeking through and also with contrasting textures to show the modern woman's contrasting feelings.
This is my storyboard, mood board, color board, and line up. We also did individual design boards with each of the garments technical flats and a fabric board that I will photograph when I get this project back. This is the first time I have completely hand rendered a collection (I normally do a lot of digital coloring with Photoshop) but these illustrations are all a mixed medium of water color, marker, color pencil, and micron pen.
