Our cousin coming to UT

Sally,

I think I told you about this. We have a cousin on the Singletary side of the family who is coming to UT this fall! Ashleigh Caison is the granddaughter of my dad's first cousin, Rev. Johnny Singletary. You may remember Johnny spoke at my mom's funeral. He was an Air Force Chaplain and retired in Chapel Hill. Ashleigh's mom and dad both work for UNC in health care and information technology respectively. Ashleigh and her mom are coming to Austin next week for orientation. I will be out of town on business, but Mom, Emily and Lucy are taking them to dinner on Tuesday night. Ashley is going to study Aerospace Engineering! Hook'em Cousin Ashleigh! Here is more about their family, in an email I got from Ashleigh's mom.

Hi Page,

We are humbled by your generosity!

Ashleigh and I will be arriving in Austin on Tuesday at 3:15pm.  I would guess that we will arrive at our hotel, the ATT Conference Center, between 4:30 and 5p.  We would love to go out to dinner with Cathy, Carolyn, and possibly your girls, on Tuesday night.  Please let us know where we should meet them for dinner and what time.  I should probably warn you that we are both vegetarians, if that makes a difference in restaurant choices.

Thank you so much for connecting us with your friends and family!

Ashleigh wants to be an aerospace engineer, and I'm not sure she has a sub-specialty in mind yet. Last year she was part of a four person team that was chosen to travel to NASA and launch a payload that her team developed.  Very exciting stuff!  She attended the NC School of Math and Science in Durham for her junior and senior years.  It is a residential high school. This past year, she was an RA on her hall,  enjoyed community service projects, and did a biomedical engineering internship at Duke(the aerospace person was on sabbatical).  Her heart has always been in aerospace engineering, though.

She chose UT because she wanted to go to a big school in a big city far away from home.  They have a great aerospace program, and honestly, were just so welcoming when we visited, that we felt like we were coming home.  Sarah Kitten, the aerospace department person that we were in contact with, arranged such an amazing day for Ashleigh with one on one tours and classes, that we were just blown away!  We also visited Rice, MIT, Ga Tech.  It came down to Ga Tech and UT, and there was just no contest in her mind, I think.  She didn't like MIT(too cold and grey weather-wise) and Rice was too small.

Emma, our youngest, will be a sophomore in high school this fall.  She is also very good in math, but not as interested in science as her sister, or maybe she just hasn't had the right teacher yet. She plays tennis for her school and is an amazing baker.   She is staying busy this summer pet/house/babysitting for people in our neighborhood and traveling to the mountains and the beach with friends and family.

I am an OB RN.  I started working nights right out of school because it didn't require getting up at 0-dark-thirty to be at work at 7am.  Now, it is hard to leave nights because the pay for day shift doesn't  compare very well. I work at UNC Hospital, just a few minutes from home.

Brent works IT for UNC.  He is the Storage Manager for the University.   We met in college at UNC  and have lived in Chapel Hill ever since.  He is from Wallace, NC, a small town near Wilmington, NC.

How did you end up in Austin with a girl from Georgia?

"Thank you" does not seem adequate for your generosity and the warm welcome to Austin!
