Happy Birthday Catherine Singletary - 2 for you!

Birthday girl and her favorite boyfriend

Sally:

I love mom because she is always full of energy. She is the life of the party and loved by so many people. She is the glue for her family and siblings, for us, and for her friends....I don’t know how she does it all!! I hope this year brings Mom joy and fun adventures!!!

Not only does she do it all; but she also always makes everything more fun and is always down for a party no matter how tired she might be. I love that Mom is always the life of the party!

Love you Mom!

Emily:

I love mom for so many reasons. The older I get, the more I understand how lucky we are to have her. She gives the best advise, is hilarious, kind, patient, and smart. She is my role model and best friend and I hope one day to be as good of a mom as she is to us.

I love that mom is ALWAYS willing to help her girls and never even considers saying no. There is no cross country move she can’t handle and no white tee she can’t clean spotless. She is the best mama there is and I am so lucky to have her!

Lucy:

I love how mom is the BEST host! No matter the day, no matter what is going on, she is always ready to welcome everyone into our home! Even when I show up at home with no warning with 4 friends - she will welcome everyone with open arms, and the best part is, she truly enjoys it so much! Her inviting spirit is one of her gifts that makes people feel so loved. I have learned so much from Mom’s hospitality, how it makes people feel, and I hope to carry that value over into my home one day.
I love the phone conversations I get to have with mom. Some are brief and end poorly (like when she told me to get my flu shot) and others are an hour long and we just get to talk all about life! Mom - talking to you is always a highlight and I am so thankful for the ways you love and take care of me, even with a little distance between us. Time with you is the best!

Taylor:

I love and admire my Mother-in-law (MIL) for so many reasons. Number one on my list is because she raised Sally to be the best she could be - friendly, gracious, kind, open-hearted, and generous. She is communicative to all her daughters and very supportive. I am impressed by her mothering of the girls. (Most visible to me - Sal!)

I love that Cathy is the best hostess.  She is open-armed to anyone and everyone and has truly changed my heart with how to make people welcomed and loved. She may be crazy at times (!) but she always loves on people so well. I love spending time with my new family because she is so welcoming and loving.

Another year with the most amazing wife and mother of my children. I love how she keeps our life so full of fun and laughter. And how she takes such good care of us with healthy food, a beautiful home full of furniture, and three happy girls.

Cathy has been the best life-partner a man could ever hope to have. We had such a fun 'sabbatical' this past summer exploring the East Coast and we have many more adventures to go!

A lot going on here

Kicking off a fun week with the Tar Heels in the Sweet 16, Emily moving into her apartment, and WGC Dell Match Play!

On a sad note, we lost our second club professional, Tinsley Penick this week at the age of 80. Read about Tinsley here.

Birkman - Amy Shepley

Hey Lucy,

Are you ready to Make it a Great Monday?

Here's someone you would enjoy getting to know. Amy Shepley is the granddaughter of the founder of Birkman International. You may remember when mom and I did some 'Birkman' work with the local team here in Austin. It is similar to your enneagram testing, with some key differences though that I think you would find very interesting.

Learn more about the Birkman model here.

Ask me how I know Amy and how you can take her to a two-hour lunch one day. Let's make it happen and maybe you can get an internship with Amy and Birkman International one day?

Love you,

Dad

P.S. You should also ask me, 'What is a two-hour lunch?'

Stay whole - Immense Patience and Shine like the Sun

This from Sal (and T) yesterday . . .

Bob Goff on Immense Patience. He is a gifted speaker with a powerful message, and a funny guy. Thanks Sal and T. "Whatever you fill your bucket with, you will become!"

And the below devotional from Lucy this morning. Reminds me of the famous quote from Marianne Williamson that we have all seen before. We are all meant to shine . . .

Happy 19th Birthday Lucy May Singletary

Emily: (1) I love how Lucy is immediately loved by everyone around her. She has a kind, calming presence and I am so proud of the young woman she has become in college. She has made so many loving, true friends. Lucy is the person I want around at all times in my life because she provides light and calmness. (2) I love that Lucy is so ambitious and insightful on what she wants for her future and what brings her joy. Lu is extremely mature and knows what she needs to do and explore now in order to plan ahead. Most Freshmen in college would go home and relax/party all summer or sign up for the camp they have already gone to for years, but Lu decides to find an entirely new way to explore what she loves and build her resume. Go Luchella!! I am so proud of you.

Taylor: (1) Lucy impresses me by staying true to what she loves, and being comfortable in who she is. She found her niche instantly at A&M and hasn't looked back. She is future focused and determined to have a well thought out path supported by others. I look up to Lucy in all of these attributes. I hope to grow up to be like her. (2) Lucy shares my love for the beach! I am jealous she will spend all summer in Hawaii and happy that it could open a lifetime of opportunities for her.

Sally: (1) I love how Lucy has seamlessly adjusted to college with so much grace. She has the best friends and is loved so easily by anyone who crosses paths with her. She is full of light and joy and I am so impressed with how she completely OWNS College Station and how she has said yes to so many amazing opportunities without hesitation. I wish I could go back in time and be Lucy’s friend in college (specifically I would like to be Amy or Emma). (2) I love how Lucy has grown up to be so balanced and wise. She has the perfect combination of wit, empathy, intelligence, discipline, and drive. I don’t know what our family would do without her levelheadedness and maturity. Lucy is a constant example to me of how to live my faith out loud. I love being her big sister and cannot wait to see what year 19 brings! I know it will be amazing.

Mama: (1) Lucy is conscientious, thoughtful, appreciative and respectful. She treats her family and friends with kindness and respect and expects the same back. That will take you far in life Lucy! (2) I am so happy that Lucy has found great friends and so much joy at A&M. I love her shining spirit and the confidence that she has in herself. I’m proud that she is following her heart and dreams this summer. The world is waiting for you, Lucy! Most of all, I am proud to call you my daughter. I love you Lucy.

Daddy: (1) What a special young woman you have become Lucy May Singletary! Your desire to do something good in the world and help others in need is a very admirable thing. You not only talk that talk; but you walk the walk. Congrats on such a great start to college and for so quickly finding a network of friends to support you on your journey. You are a natural leader with a servant heart!; (2) Thanks for your intuition and always hugging me with such love and kindness. I treasure our time together and am so blessed and happy to have you close for your college years. Keep coming to see us in Austin and bring your friends!

God bless Lucy!
