The Churn: Seeds of Greatness

Sally,

It is great to have you home. I know I seem distracted, because I am . . . trying to figure out this job situation. I thought I would use some material from 'Nuggets with Dad' on 'The Churn' over the next ten days or so. Let's get away for coffee and a chat very soon, or how about Yoga at noon tomorrow, followed by lunch?

I love you,

The Churn: Urgency - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sally,

I love this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, that I picked up in today's yoga class from one of my favorite instructors, Sarah Luna. Isn't that a great name for a yoga teacher? Ya'll be careful traveling this week and help mom as much as possible. Can't wait to have you home for summer.

The Churn: Urgency - Even when urgency may not be present

Sally,

There is something really fun (and important) about this next characteristic of the true sales genius: urgency. Remember, we are all sales people in one way or the other, so these posts are important to you as you transition into year two of college. I have been thinking about a book study for the two of us this summer. I am leaning towards Guy Kawasaki's new book Enchantment, that I wrote about yesterday. What do you think?

Stay whole,

Dad

Sally,

Can you believe this is your final Fit as a Fiddle Friday of your Freshman year? I heard you are taking your mentor to the movie tonight and having a hard time saying good-bye. I am sure you have been a wonderful influence on her young life.

Getting ready to meet with my friend Brittany Hoeft about my churnOn Team Coaching idea.

Stay tuned,

Sally,

I posted 'the rest of the story' on my Facebook page, from yesterday's James Bond picture. Can't wait to see my favorite Bond girl! Today's article on the 'The Churn' links to an interesting post about the difference in leaders and bosses. Also, I spoke to my friend Brittany Hoeft this morning about my churnOn Coaching idea, as it relates to putting a team of sharp young professionals together to discuss personal branding. I am hoping you will want to be part of the group?

Love,

Dad

The Churn: How am I unique and extraordinary

Hey Sally,

How's your list of unique and extraordinary traits coming along? Remember, what you say and do, is who you become. If you believe you are extraordinary in a certain way, then you will become such. If you want to be unique in a certain way, then start being so.

Recognize the picture in today's essay? I can't wait to have you home for summer!

The Churn: ELU Squared: Be unique and extraordinary

Sally,

There is some good food-for-thought in the short article below. This same principle can be applied to any profession. When you look at the people at the top, you will see unique people and you will see extraordinary people. How do you separate yourself from the pack?

For me, I have several ways of being unique. I walk fast. ("That guy walks with purpose and is going places in his life.") I have a beautiful bald head. I smile a lot. I make people feel good. I also do some things that are not well-liked in certain situations. I despise long meetings. I get bored with trivial conversation. I walk fast. ("That guy is always in a hurry and doesn't slow down to listen to what I have to say.")

Stay whole,

Dad

The Churn: Commentary from Strategic Positioning

Sally,

I made a change to my Facebook page this weekend that will be interesting to follow, and I may need your help with some feedback, thoughts, and testing. I converted my personal page to a 'fan' page or a 'business' page, so that I can separate my personal Facebook posts from my churnOn Facebook posts. I now need to setup a new 'personal' page and (I believe) reach out and 'friend' my family and close friends.

I was hoping to change the name of my new business page to something like 'G. Page Singletary - author and coach' but it will not let me do that? All of my Facebook friends, instantly became fans of my business page and you can look and see how I am setting it up to be all about my book and my website, and thus not about family stuff. Any thoughts on what I should call my new personal page? I might call it G. Page Singletary Jr. – as mom just said to me last night that I should use 'Jr.' more often?

As to my churnOn essay this morning, have you taken Meyers Briggs or any of the other test mentioned in the post? This summer, I want you to take the Birkman Profile and let my friends at Strategic Positioning break it down for you.

Make it a great Monday,

Dad
