It's official: Emily & Kyle are engaged

We have known Kyle for nearly five years, and we love the young man. Kyle and I had a chance to 'talk' about marriage and Emily recently, and he said everything a father would want to hear. The day we had our 'talk,' we played golf at Austin CC, and I asked a bunch of my best buddies to provide quotes about marriage and life that I could share with Kyle. I typed each quote by hand on my Grandfathers's Royal and shared it with Kyle on each tee box throughout the round, just as I had done for Taylor before he asked me to marry Sally.

Lucy's Graduation Ditty: SHE'S GOING PLACES

Lucy’s Graduation Ditty
She’s Going Places
By: G Page Singletary (May 13, 2022)

Youngest
Lucy May Singletary
She’s going places

Doctors on alert
But grace of God
She’s going places

Wise
Beyond her years
From early days
She always appears
To be going places

Nothing can phase
Our little Lucy
Cucumber calm
Cause she’s our Goosey
She’s going places

Like a bullet train
Like a jet plane
Left and Right
Golden brain
She’s going places

Westlake High
Hyliner number two
Through and through
She’s going places

Aggie land
Strike up the band
Another Chi O
Whoop!
She’s going places

And work the turf
Fiji as well
She’s going places

Pandemic
Spirits not dampened
Seat belts fastened
She's going places!

She's a junior on a mission
A woman with a vision
She's going places

Lucy making spaces
Tie up your laces
For amazing things
To happen
She’s going places!

Time flies
Cream-of-crops rise
Senior on a mission
Foot on the ignition
She’s going places!

Always kind
Still willing to grind
Touching all the bases
Our LuLu
She's going places!

Matriculated
Cum Laude graduated
C in cooking
be damn
She’s going places

We love you, Lucy May
For the way
You play
This game of life

Keep standing tall
Given it, your all
In it for the long haul
Always have a ball
Going places!

Happy Birthday Emily: Here's your 2'fer

Kyle:

Emily, I had an epiphany at the beginning of April when you were in London. It was a lonely time without you and Kevin around, but I also found myself in a weird place where I was unmotivated all week. Of all the things you do for me, the biggest thing you do is motivate me, and I love that about you. Every day I get up and go to work, I always have you in the back of my mind, and it's the greatest motivation I could have. I am so proud of where you are in your career now; watching you kill it every day at Yeti has just been awesome.

I love you for being the perfect match. You are the only person in the world that can handle everything of me that is both good and bad, but I honestly don't think there is a single other person that even stood a chance. You know exactly when to let me rant or tell me to shut up. You know when I need space and when I need you. Thank you for an amazing 5 years; that was just the warm-up; get ready for the next 50+ years.

Cathy:

Emily makes me laugh. She brings so much joy to all of our lives. I love for her to tell me crazy stories. It makes my day, all the way in London.

Emily is so hardworking, considerate, and inclusive. I am glad that she has found a great job at Yeti, surrounded herself with good friends, is always helpful and kind to our family, is a wonderful mom to Kevin, and is a great girlfriend to Kyle. I love you so much and miss you when I’m gone.

gPa:

Emily is one of my favorite daughters. She makes me laugh. She keeps up with me and stays in touch. She is always willing to help. She is the consummate 'doer' - no task too small or too big.

Emily is crushing her career! Who would not want to work with or for Emily? She is going places in the business world, and it is going to be fun to watch it happen. I love you, Emily!

Lucy:

I love how Meme is my best friend! I love that we get to do life together in Texas (even though we miss our British family). I don’t know what I would do without her down the road, and I’m so excited to be in the same state even after graduation!

Em is my go-to for everything, and I am so thankful! I love talking food, working out, clothes, getting our ears pierced ;), and trying all new things together. I look up to you so much and hope I can be half the amazing person you are as I grow into my post-grad life!

Sally:

I love Emily so much. She always makes me smile and laugh and has the same effect on anyone she surrounds herself with. She has a way that puts everyone at ease and makes you feel like you can just be yourself. She is so down-to-earth and humble and FUN. I can never spend enough time with Emily; she is the best sister to Lucy and me. I am sad we live so far apart, but I am manifesting that one day we will live in a beautiful neighborhood sister compound, all three of us, and I can't WAIT.

I love how Emily and I are very aligned on our approach to life and whenever I need advice on the smallest or largest things - Emily is always an amazing sounding board. I love having someone so close to me that I share the same passions (interior design, fashion, Kevin, etc.) I know as life progresses, we will always have each other to navigate marriage, raising kids, adopting dogs, decorating houses, what to wear, everything! We are so lucky.

Taylor:

Emily is a great sister to me. I've really gotten to know her more while she's been in London for the holiday and for Sal's birthday. I respect how she stepped up and hosted Betty while Sal was sick and appreciate that she can handle so many different (big) personality types so well. It is a true talent.

I loved our pub crawl in London together. The Cross Keys and the Chelsea Pig now have some really good memories for me. Emily livens things up and is always down to have "One for the Road."

Trey:

I love how fun and outgoing Emily is! She is definitely the life of the party and is always encouraging everyone to have fun as well. She has such a great attitude, and I am always more joyful when around her! I love that she and Kyle are in Austin, so I can see them more frequently throughout the year!

I love that Emily is so hospitable! She is always such a good host when I am at their home in Austin! I am always so well fed when with her and Kyle! It is always a treat to be with them.

Happy Birthday Kyle: Here's your 2'fer

Page:

I appreciate how focused Kyle is on his career. He has found a dynamic, entrepreneurial financial services firm to hitch his wagon to, which seems like a great fit. He goes to bed early, rises early, and gets after every day. He is building a pattern of success and prosperity that will last a lifetime.

I appreciate that Kyle has a strong appreciation for family values and meaningful friendships. When you are 'in the fold' with Kyle, you know you are cared for in every way.

Cathy:

I love Kyle's cooking and the joy that cooking and sharing it with others brings him. He is a multi-talented guy.

I love how friendly and inclusive Kyle is with everyone in the family. He has a special way of making a connection with each of us. We all know that we can count on him for anything. Love you, Kyle!

Emily:

Oh, Kyle, you are a piece of work, but I don’t know what I would do without you. Life would be very boring! I love that you take such good care of Kevin and me. You work hard, cook gourmet meals, clean even when tired and already cooked, make us laugh, and protect us from everything (except spiders). We appreciate you!

I love that Kyle remembers everything, especially when I can not. He makes a point to connect with people and is amazing at remembering so many facts, no matter how small. He is a jack of all trades, and his knowledge never ceases to amaze me. I am so proud of Kyle's smartness and happy he is my life partner.

Lucy:

I love how Kyle is always so thoughtful with the gifts and experiences he plans for E and all of us. He is always working hard researching to make sure that we get to experience all of the best restaurants, shows, etc., and creating the most thoughtful gift ideas for E!

I love Kyle’s sense of humor. He always keeps us entertained and laughing, and we really wouldn’t be the same without him! Thank God he is here to spice up the Singletary mix!

Trey:

Kyle is the most honest person I have ever been around! If there is something that needs to be said, Kyle is the first to say it, even if no one else wants to. If there is something on his mind, he will say it, and I really respect and admire that about him!

I love how willing Kyle is to help people out. He helped my roommate get a big finance job with his dream company! He would take time out of his Saturdays to talk to my roommate Mauricio for hours when he could have been resting. He is so generous!

Taylor:

I have a lot of good memories with Kyle. I have even more after the holidays in London this year. I loved hearing about the several-week bender with the clients on the West End, and I have to say I was very glad I wasn't the one entertaining that whole time. I liked that I was included with Jay at Sporting Page and look forward to many more pub days in London.

It's cool how Kyle calls me regularly. I don't have many friends that find time to speak on the phone that often. Kyle will take the time and usually fills me in on many things I didn't usually know about. It is a great personal touch.

Sally:

I love how Kyle is such a good friend to everyone in our family. He is really good about picking up the phone and checking in with us. Taylor and I both consider Kyle a really good friend, and we can't wait to one day (HURRY UP!) officially call him family!!

I love how Kyle is so good about keeping us informed on the latest restaurants, the housing market, cool places in London, and other very random facts. He is a wealth of knowledge and makes sure our family is in the know! I love his upbeat energy and drive! I can't wait until he opens his restaurant and hires me to design it.

MiaGM in Cornwall: Oss Oss Wee Oss! 💃 ⚓️ 🕺

Morning Lucy,

We certainly had never heard of the Padstow Obby Oss Festival when we booked our travel to Cornwall.

This May Day, locals will spend the night decorating the town’s streets with flags, flowers and greenery complete with a maypole and the following morning two "osses", one red and one blue emerge from their stables. The “osses”, swirling and dancing proceed through Padstow's streets taunted by a Teazer, who will lead the dance with theatrical movements. The accompanying retinue are dressed all in white with their costumes decorated with ribbons and sprays of cowslips and bluebells.

The return of the festival for the first time since the Pandemic made life extra alive in Padstow. The little town was standing tall!

Here's a YouTube video of the 11AM dance, which we caught a bit of before heading off to St. Enodoc Golf Club, opting to chase the little white ball over the osses.

And for the entire history of the celebration, check this out from 1953.

If you get a chance to visit Cornwall one day in May, be ready to party!

Make it a Great Monday,

Dad
